Back To The Future Marty McFly Reissue

Posted on December 18 2025

Whilst the majority of skateboarding’s greatest moments have been documented on film, one of the most impactful was never featured in a skateboard video.

In 1985, tens of millions hit the cinema for the Michael J Fox blockbuster Back To The Future. But before Marty McFly set off on his time travel adventure, they were treated to 1 minute of footage that would propel skateboarding to new levels of popularity. Countless professional skateboarders sight this 1 minute as the spark that got them skateboarding.

It wasn’t groundbreaking tricks or a world record attempt, it was just a kid running late for school, in the coolest way imaginable. The way Marty repurposed how his small town functioned to his advantage really spoke to me. Plus he looked cool AF doing it.

That freedom of going where you want, faster than the regular people, with a dash of danger, it was irresistible. Even the ladies hard at their aerobics recognised his game.

Serendipitously, Huey Lewis belts out “You don't need money, don't take fame. Don't need no credit card to ride this train” on the soundtrack.

Then there was the way he kicked the board into his hand at the end of his ride, that sealed the deal. A part ending hammer if ever there was one.

“Can you feel it? Hmm, hmm.”

The board ridden was a shared project between entry level brand Valterra and 80’s colab pioneer Madrid Skateboards. To celebrate Back To The Future’s 30th anniversary they’ve teamed up again to produce this limited edition reproduction.

You won’t be able to travel back in time to grab this one.

 Unless you’re… CHICKEN?
